Canada day is the national day of Canada, a federal statutory holiday celebrating the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, Canada Day is celebrated on July 1st across the country. July 1st marks the anniversary of the formation of the union of the British North America provinces in a federation under the name of Canada ,On July 1, 2011, join us in Ottawa–Gatineau to celebrate Canada’s 144th birthday! Canada’s Capital Region buzzes with activity, as Canadians from across the country flock to the Capital to show their national pride.On June 20, 1868, Governor General the Viscount Monck issued a royal proclamation asking for Canadians to celebrate the anniversary of the confederation.[13] However, the holiday was not established statutorily until 1879, when it was designated as Dominion Day, in reference to the designation of the country as a Dominion in the British North America Act.After the centenary of the confederation in 1967, Dominion Day events became more widespread. July 1 became popularly known as Canada Day. The date was also officially known as Canada Day from 1983 onwards.
