Aston Villa already have the goalkeeper of Republic of Ireland Shay Given from Manchester City though they have finished the signing.
The 35 years old has signed with an undisclosed fee of a five year contract at Villa Park after the clubs agreed.
When Brad Friedel left for Tottenham, Alex McLeish, boss of New Villa, became interested in the former Newcastle player.
He expressed his feelings through the club’s website saying, “Aston Villa is a huge club and I’m really excited to be joining. It’s a new challenge and I’m eager to embrace it.”
Given was on the margins at Eastlands after City manager, Roberto Mancini, Joe Hart his first choice.
He will make his Villa debut in a friendly against Walsall on Thursday in the Irish international.
The boss McLeish strongly believes that Given will have a major impact at the club.
He said, “Shay has come here with something of a point to prove and that won’t do him any harm at all”.
“Everybody who has watched him perform over many years in the Premier League will know his pedigree so we believe we have secured the services of one of the best goalkeepers in the business.”
Therefore, now we are to observe that if he could really meet the hope of the spectators!
